The origins
of the Industrial Drives Business unit can be traced back
to the year 1936 when inventor Anton Ryba unveiled with ZF
his electromagnetic multi-disc clutch --- a development which
opened up new doors, particularly in the mechanical engineering
sector. The decades that followed saw ZF expand its range
of mechanical engineering and systems engineering products
until finally, in 1986, the strategic Industrial Drives Business
unit was born, fusing together all the activities in this
field and since 1998, this strategic business unit hived off
as a fully-owned subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and christened
ZF Maschinenantriebe GmBH. Innovative product strategy has
allowed ZF Maschinenantriebe GmBH to open new markets, particularly
in expansive and technologically demanding areas such as robotics
and automation.
