ELECTROMAGNETIC SPRING-APPLIED FAILSAFE SAFETY
BRAKES.
7. ACCESSORIES
a. Hand release
The
hand release serves to release the brake manually. It can also be
retrofitted. The hand release goes back to its base position automatically
after operation. The gap is the distance between the armature plate
and the washer this gap dimension must be maintained when assembling
the hand release.
Caution :-
Even with a reduced rated torque, a readjustment of the working air
gap reaching the dimension is necessary for reasons of safety.
b. Flange
If no suitable friction is available, the mounting flange can be used,
which at the same time is able to carry the dust cover seal.
c.
Dust cover-seal
The dust cover-seal prevents to a large extent exist or penetration
of dust, dirt, humidity, etc. into the braking area. The seal is
pulled over the brake and inserted into the output side; we recommend
using a mounting flange .
d.
Friction plate
If plain machined counter face is available but cannot be used as
a friction surface, for example in the case of aluminum, we recommend
to use a friction plate which can also be combined with a seal.
The friction plate is made of non-corroding material. It can be
supplied up to size 100.
e.
Centering flange (Tachometer brake)
The basic module N combined with a centering flange is suitable
for the assembly of a tachogenerator. Such a kind of brake arrangement
is shown in the figure below :

f. Mounting flange (double brake)
The mounting flange can be used to adapt a second basis module E
to the basic module N; the resulting double brake is suitable for
stage machinery or other applications with increased safety requirements.
It basically has two independently acting brakes arranged in tandem,
silenced, switched noise below 60 dB. Such a kind of double brake
arrangement is shown in he figure below :

g.
Brake Cover
A brake can be mounted to the basic module E and N to protect the
break from water and dust. The property of the cover material is
such that it protects the brake from explosion and safe guards it
from disastrous environmental conditions. Hence these brakes are
designed with the IP 67 and 68 protections for their enclosure.
Such a kind of encapsulated brake is shown in the figure.
h. Micro Switch
The micro switch is used when a monitoring of the air gap is required.
The motor can only start, if the brake is released. If the maximum
air gap is reached, the stator attracts the armature plate. In that
case the motor contactor is not activated and the motor does not
start. The air gap of the basic module E and the basic module N
can be readjusted. The micro switch can also be adjusted such that
a signal is output before the wear reserve is reached (wear monitoring).
Hence the micro-switch protects the brake from mechanical damage.
On most occasions, they are interlocked with the circuit of the
electric motor and prevent the motor from starting before the brake
is release. Otherwise the motor could drive through the brake resulting
in increased wear and in the worst case, even the destruction of
the brake.
NOTE
:
Micro
switch are available in the market for various sizes.
Customers can contact the dealers or the manufactures for the required
size.
We shall give the suggestions for the availability & the required
size of micro switch.
E.g., of the arrangement of the micro switch is shown in the figure.

These
brakes are also made available in low cost and stripped down versions,
an example of which is shown below.
The
most typical of such versions are the brakes designed for holding
load.
HOLDING
BRAKE
As
you will see the above brake version does away with the torque adjustment
setting as well as the other add-on components, which might be needed
for a particular application.
Moreover
these brakes function as holding brakes with the added holding forces
provided by another set of springs on the internal periphery of
the brake magnet. These brakes find a wide usage in the modern servomotors
for safety function.
